Lauren Jackson Q&A - Part 2

With so many question submitted to this year's Q&A mailbox we have decided to extend it to a second part!
Recovering from hip surgery, Lauren has answered a few more of your questions...

Hello Lauren! I'm Jessica from Barcelona, Spain. I'm happy because you will play in Valencia.
You expect from Valencia? as a city and club. I think they will win everything and as a city is beautiful, good food and good weather. I hope you like and enjoy much!!

I will go to many games to watch you play. Greetings. Thanks Lauren :)

Yeah, I am really looking forward to playing in Valencia. I have heard so many beautiful things about the city itself. It should be amazing yay!!!!

Loz! This year saw the addition of two Aussie rookies to enter the WNBA. Cambage and O'Hea are both young players with plenty of potential. However, do you think the WNBA is the best avenue for Australians to develop their game, or is playing in Europe suffice?

It depends I guess, it just depends on your size and skill and what you plan to do in Australia with the Opals or WNBL. There are a lot of opportunities for kids to go through the NCAA as well which obviously has other benefits, but ultimately the choice is personal and decisions are generally made with those who are closest to you.

First of all, thank you for being an inspiration to women. What you had done, are currently doing, and will continue to do, both on and off court, are truly inspirational. Your support for women who are victims of violence and for women sport in general are two of the million things that already made you a legend. It is a complete privilege to live in this generation with you, watching you gracefully 'interpret" how to be the best and the greatest basketball player in the world. May all your wishes come true Lauren, because I know your goal to be the best in the world of women's basketball had already come true since the time your mum let you sleep under gym benches when you were a baby. ;-) Again, THANK YOU. You are amazing!!! Xo

Akasha, thank you very much, that is super sweet.

Have you introduced your US team mates on Storm to State of Origin football yet? How did they react to real football?

Hahaha I tried but they are not at all interested, I tried to get my coaches into it too but alas there was no love for the BLUES.

Good luck this season again Lauren! When the Canberra community put their money together to get you to play the second half of the WNBL season, the offer was arguably better (nothing compared to Europe though) than what any rugby, cricket, Aussie Rules player would get for that period of time in Australia. How did it make you feel to know that a city with only a territory government and very little private business could put money together to entice you back?

Yeah it was very special. I have been very lucky to play in Canberra all my years in the league. I guess the relationship with the fans and with the city I have, enabled that to happen. Capitals were very proactive in going out and getting sponsorship. Yeah felt very honoured to have been offered that contract in Canberra.

who is your all time favorite nba player?

Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain

Hi Lauren, I was just wondering if you look back on any special games you have been apart of. Obviously championship winning games are special but are there any in particular? Your first WNBA championship? 2003 WNBL championship with Tom Maher where Canberra came back from way behind to win? Or what about the World Championships of 2006 in the semi finals where the Opals were on fire in the second half after struggling against Brazil for much of the game? Good luck for the WNBA season. Hope to see you back in Caps uniform soon!

All championships are special and unforgettable for different reasons, personal and professional. 2006 was just so much fun and we didn't have to go through the Americans to win but it still doesn't take away the World Championship. 2010 championship here in Seattle last year was one that will remain in my heart until the day I die. That championship was special because of the season we had and the group of people we had. We won 2 European championships which now, well they represent Shabtai so of course I see them as unforgettable, even different time and space. And of course the success with the Capitals and AIS, how much fun is mad Monday? We never do that over here, so we may celebrate a little bit harder in Australia lol, hence the lack of memory jk. Capitals championships are familial, same people involved for 12 years, the same coaches, same staff behind the scenes, the same supporters, the same friends and family helping off the court. Canberra is the best city in the world to play basketball in (in my heart anyway).

LJ, have you ever thought that one day you and Sue will be bench players and only play for 10+ min. can you adjust yourself being a bench player?  Or you will retire when you are still at the peak?

Yeah for sure, whether it be WNBA or State League in Albury, I'm sure I'll be on the bench at some point in the future. I really have no idea where this future is going to take me.

I love you Lauren. I play basketball myself my coach is Katrina Hughes she has said that she has played you before. I am in love with you. You are an inspiration and my role model. I like to ask how do you keep your self healthy and how you play against a really good team and you think you are going to lose how do you get the thought that your going to lose out of your head?

Um well after you lose a game you just have to keep your head up and keep trying to get better. In my career I've lost a lot, injuries, games, medals, you store it somewhere in your heart that motivates you to get better. It's worked a lil bit for me! But SWAGGER is my word, if you carry that around like the Storm do you will never lose. Xx

Hi LJ! Where are your favourite places in Australia or the world to relax when you are not playing professionally?

My fave place isn't too far from where you are it looks like lol. South coast is my getaway and where I live between seasons. I am moving back to Albury when I am done tho!!

Hello Lauren!

I remember that few years ago you mentioned your engagement in writing poetry, and said you would publish your poems one day. Did you make any progress towards publication? I would be very interested in reading them if they are or they will be published! Especially because I write poetry myself, and probably for reasons similar to those that prompted you to start writing.

By the way, I also wrote two poems about you, if I ever get my collection published I will try to let you get it ;-) !

All the best,
Stefano

Yeah I do write still, I'm not sure it's publishable haha but I do enjoy a pen just writing away. Hhhhh maybe one day.

Lauren, thank you so much for playing in the WNBA and specifically choosing to stay with the Seattle Storm team!  I have had season tickets from the beginning with the Storm, so have watched you every season.  You are my favorite and I have always believed you are the BEST women's basketballer in the WORLD!  At every game, I always hope you will score a ton of points, get a lot of rebounds, and block a bunch of shots just to prove it to the world.  I LOVED the game you scored over 20 points and had 20 rebounds!!!!  So, keep pouring them in, snatching them out of the air, and slapping them away from everyone!  WE ARE SO PRIVILEGED TO WATCH YOU PLAY BALL HERE IN SEATTLE!!!  You are loved here for your skill, your loyalty, and for who you are!  Enjoy the season.

Thank you very much, I love Seattle and I hope to end my career there. I have certainly grown up in Seattle, yeah I love being there. It's a bit of a family the old Storm lol..
