Lauren Jackson Q&A - Part 1
Fresh off her All-Star Game MVP performance in the WKBL, Lauren shared her time with us to answer some of your questions! In Part 1 of this Q&A, check out what LJ had to say regarding the Caps and Flames, ballin' in South Korea, and... Cyndi Lauper?!
Hey Loz, Do you get much of a chance to catch up with or hang out with any of the other WNBA players that are playing in Korea? Or is all your time spent with teammates - training, playing, travelling and hanging out? Hope you are really enjoying the experience and of course hope you guys win :) Will be great to see how playing in the league over there has improved your game (with the speed) when you get back to Seattle. Thanks Suse :) xoxoxo
Heyyy, You know I have a fair bit of time to do my own thing over here, I hang with my team mates a lot! The other WNBA players? I do a little bit - I mean we try to catch up as much as possible but our teams are based at least 40 mins away from each other so it's hard. But we all tend to keep in touch one way or another!
Long time no talk. hope all is well miss you heaps. Keep up the good work you're a legend mate.
Katie, MISS you lovely, hope ur well!!
Hey Lauren. Have to firstly say congratulations on your WKBL season! Anyways, I think a lot of people are very interested/concerned (for the caps fans) about your allegiance to the WNBL clubs of Canberra and Sydney. The Canberra Capitals offer the most professional program in the WNBL, best media support, and easily the best crowds. Canberra has also been a 1/2 home for you and has seen you develop at the AIS to being the best player in the world and playing for the Capitals! I know you have an apartment in Sydney but What would make you want to leave this behind and want to play for Sydney? Truly hope to see you in Capitals uniform again!
lol, my allegiance is with the WNBL... I love the league very much and I intend to end my career there. It's true, I have based myself in Sydney... I have a lot of family and friends there and also it easier for me as I am travelling more and more these days. I have signed in Korea for the next 2 years and have not obligated to anything after that. Canberra was my home for 9 years, I love it there and have no intentions of playing anywhere else in the league... as of yet!!! But in saying that, I'm not ignoring any other options.....
Hey LJ - Congrats on getting the MVP award in the WKBL! Been
watching your games online. Your team just keeps getting better.
I hope you make it to the Championships.
Girl - you are so crazy talented it's ridiculous. There's just no one else like you.
See ya in May!
Thank you soooo much... I love it over here, Truly!!! My team mates are awesome and Seoul itself is so much fun. Other than the championship, this team is just like 2004 and the chemistry we had. I'm looking forward to Seattle toooo... See ya then!!!
Melbourne / South Carolina
Hey LJ, your my favorite player. I just came over to the usa a year ago an i saw u play in charlotte last year in july, you probably wont remember because you see many people but i had an aussie flag at that game and you waved to me and that made my day well month really. But then i found out about the warm up game against usa at duke university and so i dragged my parents along to that and it was an awesome experince to see all the opals but i thought it was awesome how all the girls stayed out on the floor and gave me and others the chance to go up and meet everyone n get photos but of my dream coming true and meeting you and getting a photo with you because your my hero and i just wanted to say thanks for being a champ and an inspiration. I'm sad though because charlotte no longer has a team and the only wnba team close is probably indiana so i was grateful for seeing the game last year. Sorry for writing a long little story lol but my question is what is your favorite place in the usa to visit and why?
Oh,, I am sorry about Charlotte as well!!! My fav. place to visit in the States would be Phoenix. I have friends there and always have a good time... The weather is so extreme though!!!!!
Hi Lauren. I know you like all types of music, so I have a music kind of question. What are the cheesiest songs that you would admit to listening to? :) lol. Anyway, take care. You're always cool in my book. :)
Cheesiest songs??? lolol... My favorite "cheesiest" song is "I Drove All Night" by Cyndi Lauper..... I AM SO NOT COOL... Hehehehehehe
hey im doing a project on sport psycology at school. We were to choose a role modle and chose you so i was wondering how you deal with stress?
Hey, Ummmmm... You know it's been a while since I was overly stressed. If I am upset or not dealing well with certain things I generally just vent..... lol.. I talk, to my family, to my friends, whomever will listen and from their advise I normally just form my own ideal and my own way of getting through things. But the one thing I have learnt in my time is that you can get through anything, regardless! The human spirit is a pretty awesome thing.... You live and you learn, it's a natural progression!!!
I want to thank you so much…I don't know whether you remember or not but I wrote to you in the last Q&A thing, about me not being able to play because of my coaches and stuff ripping into me. You said "I do it to please myself and only myself" and that basketball is a love and I should do it coz that's what I love. And I did. I love it so much, I didn't care anymore I started again…by myself at first and then I started for the school and then into club comps again. And nothing I have ever felt can compare the feeling I got when I ran out onto the court again with my team, it was like all the good feelings just rushing back into at once and it was so overwhelming and amazing. I just want to thank you, for giving me…well sort of the words I needed to keep trying and remind myself why I love this game. Thankyou so much…lol I cannot thankyou enough times…you are such an amazing person for the help you gave me even though you didn’t know me…thankyou so so so so much…
Hey, I am glad I could help you. Being happy is such an integral part of any person's life. I want people to get as much enjoyment and fulfillment out of their experiences as possible. This sport is my life!!!!! literally. What more can I say? Spread the word....
Lauren, I am so glad to see that your team is really playing well together at this point in the season...you even caught up with Number Two!!! That has to give all of you a lot of confidence for the home stretch. I just want you to know that your legion of fans in the US are following the season's progress as best our internet translators will allow us.
I also want to congratulate you and your mates for winning the World Championships last fall. I was crying with you at the end of the game, as the reality of realizing a life goal was apparent. BTW, I did the same for Tina in Athens...sometimes delayed gratifications is so much sweeter. I hope the team enjoyed the Heros Messages...I had a blast writing them, especially to Tully, she's such a hoot.
Now for my question: are you enjoying playing in the svelt version of your body? It has to be better for your shins, but I was wondering what differences you have noticed.
Stay keen, have fun, and remember: Texas Lovex Loz!
The "Svelte" version, lol. Um I have found I am
a lot quicker than I have been in a long time. Def. not as
strong but i'm sure that will pick up when I get back to the
States. I am having such a good time playing ball over here
Worlds were just the most unbelievable experience, it def. tops my list. lol! Thanks for the messages the girls and I got so much confidence knowing we had the thoughts and support from peops all over the globe.... TA xx
