Q&A with LJ

Lauren Jackson Q&A - Part 2

In Part 2 of this Q&A, check out what LJ had to say about what she misses from Seattle, Aussies who should give the WNBA a shot, and ballin' in Korea.

Hey LJ - I'm watching your games online and there's one phrase that the announcers say ALL THE TIME. It sounds like 'Gross Mee-dal' Do you have any idea what that means? They use it in all different contexts. The games are really fun to watch. Makes me excited for the Storm season!

Hahahahaha, I think it is "Sa goy simi dah"(I have no idea how to spell it in english) It is said all the time over here... I think the translation is "good job" or "good effort" but the Korean people use it in all different contexts.... We use it after practice in our hands in...lolol...

Dear. Lauren
Hi~! How have you been?
I'm Travis. I saw you in Seoul game, and I think you remember me lol I just hold some card for you in opening game and rest of seoul game.. I hope you remember me..^^
Well.. I am very impressed by your playing you are always best and doing your best. In addition, you always commit winning of your team Thus, you are the best player I've ever seen. Soon, I wiil go to the stadium to see your game
See you there
I hope you gonna healthy~!
Travis

Hey, I see you!!! Hahahahahaha..... I am very healthy at the moment and loving it, thankyou very much.... (touch wood) See you in Yong-in

A big hello from Tropical North Queensland! What was your response to the Grand Final between Sydney and Canberra? Did you get a chance to see the game on tape? Does watching that game make you want to get back to Australia and play in the WNBL? if so, for Canberra or Sydney (maybe evenTownsville LOL)? Or are you happy having a break and playing in Korea? good luck for the WKBL and WNBA!

Oh god yesssss. I missed home so much when the finals were on. I wanted to be there so badly. I did not see the game at all but I was getting updates constantly from my parents who were completely captivated. Thoughts went out to Dalt and Trish and the Sydney girls, but sport will be sport. There are winners and there are losers, it feels like crap to be at the bottom of the stick but unfortunately it's life. Every athlete and supporter and family member and friend goes through it.

Hey Lauren, I have to say it was great seeing you play for Albury last year! Anyways, Which current players in the WNBL do you think would/should be playing in the WNBA?

Well I mean we have a lot of great athletes in the WNBL and given the opportunity and the right situation, there are a few girls who would give it a good crack. I think Rohanee Cox should give it a go and also Renae Camino. If Tracey Beatty keeps improving at this rate she may have a shot. Kristen Veal needs to give training camp another go, I think she still has it in her to play over there. Hollie Grima and I think that even though these two are not in Australia right now - Deanna Smith and Suzy Batkovic could also shake up the league.

hey lj...firstly, a BIG congrats on the world championships - it makes me tremendously proud to be Australian!!! Secondly, I remember reading somewhere that if the Opals won, you'd get the words "true blue" and an Australian flag tattooed on you somewhere - just wondering if that has come to fruition yet?...if so...nice one, that's what I call true patrioism!!! Anyway, best of luck for the remainder of the year :)

Lol, I am still planning on getting those tattoos. Have not actually done it yet but it will happen....

Hi Lauren
Really important stuff but I've got to know.....McDreamy or McVet? As a Seattlite for a good part of the year, you surely have to be a Grey's Anatomy fan? If you watch the series from home (your real home in Australia that is..lol) do you get a funny kind of homesick for Seattle?

Ummmmmm, I am sad to say that I am about the only "Seattlelite" that does not watch Grey's Anatomy. I am a Desperate Housewives kind of girl lol.... I don't really get homesick when I am away from Seattle, I miss certain aspects of it though. I miss my friends there (non basketball friends) lol and I miss Sue Bird, my apartment, the Sound, my car, Kangaroo and Kiwi bar and the fine dining...... Queen Anne is such an awesome area, I miss that tooo... :-D

Aloha Lauren.... I will be heading to Seattle in July and August and I'll be attending 4 games which I am extremely excited about. ;) I read in an article that you are interested in pursuing a career in counseling after your basketball career is done. What area are you interested in pursuing. I myself am a counselor. I counsel people w/mental disabilities and assist them in finding competitive employment. It's a very challenging job but seeing that I am making a difference in people's lives is a reward beyond description. Continued success in you bball carrier and much success to you in your future endeavors.

Awesome, see you at the games!! I want to get into womens refuge, counseling and offering support to women who are victims of domestic violence, rape, and drug abuse. I also would like to run programs to promote self esteem amongst women of all ages. It's what I am passionate about and I am studying at the moment to try and understand a little more about the issues surrounding this area.

This year, you are play basketball in Asia, what is feel ?
The Asian players and the European and American player have what is difference?

Hi, I looovvveee Korea. The difference is the size, the Korean girls are a lot more petite than the rest of the world. The girls over here are a lot faster and play the game a lot quicker than the usual WNBA teams.

Hi Lauren!!! :) I think that the WNBA off-season is the absolute worst for fans! (far too long) Any scrap of news is so welcome, which is why this site is sooo awesome! My question for you concerns the health of your legs. How are your shins? Given your progression as a player, and witnessing what you can do when you aren't even close to 100% a HEALTHY LJ would be (imho) positively unstoppable!!! I'm looking so forward to it! Have a great time in Korea. Seattle misses you...

My shins and my body in general is healthy. It's been a long time since I could say that but aside from the fractures that stopped me from playing in the States last year, my body is great. They won't heal but they are not getting worse either, sooooo just play it out you know!!!!

Hi LJ, I wanted to tell you that I miss you and can't wait to see you again. I started playing kindergarten basketball and just love it! I tried to get number 15, but the jerseys only went to 10. The first game was really fun, but before my second game I got really nervous, do you still get nervous? How do you relax before a game? I hope you are having fun. Please tell your mom "hi". Love, Grace

GRACIE - I miss you sweety.....Yes I get nervous before games but I listen to music to try and take my mind off it.. Can't wait to see you in Seattle in May!!!!!!!!!! xx
