It's finals time in the WCBA

The top eight teams are ready for the WCBA playoffs. With their 7th place finish on the regular season ladder, Heilongjiang Shenda will meet 2nd seed Shanghai in the quarter finals. The best of three series will begin on Tuesday (Feb 11) in Heilongjiang; Game 2 in Shanghai on Thursday, and if needed, Game 3 in Shanghai on Saturday.
With Lauren back in Australia for surgery (more info to come), Heilongjiang face a challenging series. Silvia Fowles has had a strong season and brings some great form into the quarter finals for Shanghai. In their last game of the regular season, Fowles' 30 points and 17 boards helped the Shanghai Octopus to a comfortable 87-70 win over Bayi. 黑龙江加油!

Run home

It's down to the last few games of the WCBA regular season and Heilongjiang will be looking to finish strongly as the playoffs loom. A couple of tough road wins to start the new year has placed the team positively for a solid run home.
Maya Moore's Shanxi have been dominant all season and are in prime position to take out the minor premiership. Heilongjiang and Shanxi will battle it out again in the last round of the regular season.

黑龙江 v 沈部

Happy New Year!
Heilongjiang Shenda celebrated New Year's Eve with a 74-71 win over the Shenyang Golden Lions. After three straight losses Heilongjiang regrouped for their last game of the year, focusing their attack inside the arc, and Lauren was dominant with 35 points and 12 boards.

黑龙江 v 辽宁

Halfway through the 2013/14 WCBA season and Heilongjiang Shenda are sitting precariously in the middle of the ladder with a 6-6 record. Last night they fell to Liaoning province 62-76 after shooting just 8/33 from long range. In contrast, Liaoning were much more selective with their three-point attempts and won the game at the free throw line.
Ji Yanyan led Shenda's scoring with 22 points. Lauren Jackson pulled in her sixth double double of the season with 18 points and 13 boards. She also dished a season-high 5 assists.

Around the league, Maya Moore recorded another 50+ points performance to keep Shanxi undefeated; Liz Cambage top-scored with 36 in Beijing's win; Britney Griner had an impressive 33 points, 17 boards, 7 blocks plus a dunk in Zhejiang's win over Shanghai.

Season's Greetings

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday season!

Over in the WCBA, Heilongjiang Shenda faced the defending Champions Shanxi Flame on Christmas Eve in a tight game. Shanxi maintained their perfect record with an 83-78 win behind 51 points from Maya Moore. Shenda were competitive in the close contest with Lauren's 34 points and 13 boards; Ji Yanyan added 26 points.
Earlier in the week, Shenda also fell to second ranked Beijing. Liz Cambage dominated the game with 54 points on 22/27 shooting.

黑龙江 v 云南

Heilongjiang's three game skid has been appeased by a 79-70 win at home over Yunnan. Even with Yunnan struggling towards the bottom of the ladder and yet to record a win, they managed cut a 14-point halftime deficit to just 8 heading into the final quarter. However, Heilongjiang steadied for a much needed win and keeps them in touch with the top three teams. Lauren tallied 21 points, 8 boards and 3 blocks. Ji Yanyan top-scored with 34.

Elsewhere around the WCBA, Maya Moore's 42 point haul kept Shanxi undefeated and on top of the ladder. Liz Cambage is also having another strong season with 30 points in Beijing's win over Guangdong.

八一 v 黑龙江

Heilongjiang have dropped their second game in a row, falling 87-103 to Bayi on the road. Even with 32 points and 13 rebounds from Lauren, Heilongjiang found it difficult on Bayi's home court.
The job doesn't get any easier next week with another away game. On Tuesday the team travels to Zhejiang who currently hold a 3-3 record; Brittney Griner dropped 38 points for Zhejiang on Saturday night.

4-1

After winning their opening four games, Heilongjiang were handed their first loss of the season on Tuesday. The in-form Sylvia Fowles and her Shanghai team powered their way to a 100-72 result. Ji Yanyan led Heilongjiang with 32 points and Lauren added 16, but it wasn't enough to overcome Shanghai's 64% shooting from the floor.
Despite the loss, Heilongjiang have already surpassed last season's total wins.

Winning start

Heilongjiang opened their season on Tuesday with a 73-69 away win over Liaoning and they've backed it up by winning their home opener last night. The 93-73 victory over the Shenyang Golden Lions saw Lauren and Ji Yanyan display their offensive prowess with 30 and 36 points respectively. Superstar Ji also dished 13 assists whilst LJ cleaned up with 13 boards.

Game Two: 2013 FIBA Oceania Championship

Australia has secured their spot at the 2014 World Championships with an 84-66 win over New Zealand in Game Two. The young and fearless Tall Ferns challenged the Opals in the first half before a dominant third quarter saw the Aussies pull away and sweep the series. In just her second game back and given the opportunity to play in front of family and friends, Lauren top-scored for the Opals with 21 points to go with 7 boards.

Played at the AIS Arena in Canberra, it was a familiar home court for many of the Opals with several players having spent time on scholarship at the AIS during their teenage years. Two of Lauren's 1998/99 WNBL Championship winning AIS teammates were also key contributors in the game. Belinda Snell's 17 points and 4 assists lifted the Opals, particularly in the third quarter, whilst Kristen Veal added 8 points and 4 assists.

LJ Update

Hi All,
I hope you have an amazing 2013 and all your dreams come true!

Just thought I should say hi and update you on what's happening.
It's been very frustrating for me sitting on the sidelines watching my team mates playing in the WNBL.
All I have wanted to do is get over this hamstring injury and get out there on court with the Canberra Capitals. I have worked hard on the rehab program but in the end it has required surgery.
I have just left Melbourne after the surgery which the medical team have told me was successful and that they expect I will make a full recovery……that makes me very happy although I'm going to have to take it easy for a few weeks to give it time to recover.

I've been here before and I'm determined to overcome this.
Looking forward to getting back on the court and doing what I do!
Go Caps!

Take care.
